About our Club

The Victoria Camera Club is a group of people who share a love of photography. Our experience ranges from novice to master and our tools include both film and digital. The club was registered under the BC Societies Act in 2009. The club's constituion and bylaws can be viewed here: Constitution and Bylaws (pdf).

Meetings

We hold three meetings a month, 7:30-9:30 pm on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Thursdays, September through April. Meetings are held at Norway House, 1110 Hillside Avenue. Parking is available at Norway House itself or on certain neaby streets. Click here for a Norway House Parking Map. Come early (any time after 7:00 pm) and meet and greet your fellow members before the meeting gets started!

Meetings feature guest speakers who inspire and provide opportunities to learn,  members showcase nights and the presentation of competition results.

The first meeting of each month is Speaker Night. Recognized photographers will be invited to share their work, techniques, tips and general thoughts about photography. Our aim is to inform and/or to entertain. Shorter educational presentations may also be made by members.

The second meeting of each month is Competition Night [Note: September 17, 2009, competition entries will be accepted and the evening will include the Members' Showcase for the month,]

Entries will be due for both Club Competitions and, when applicable, for other competitions. The night will also feature the return of competition results from the previous month.

The third meeting of each month is Members' Showcase Night. [Note: the deadline for September competition entries is extended to September 24, 2009. The evening will include a guest speaker.]

Club members are invited to stake out their 15-minute time slots (one or more during the year) during which they will be given the floor to present work of their chosing including prints, slides and/or digital images. It is suggested that projected images be shown for 5 to 7 seconds so, with possible discussion, the number of images to be shown will be limited by the time available. Themes, yes, but 'travelogues', no!

Mike Silversides will coordinate Members' Showcase Night during the 2009-2010 season. Members are encouraged to contact Mike Silversides, either here by e-mail or in person, to book a time slot. This is your opportunity to share your images or any other aspect of your photographic interests with your fellow members!

Only one meeting is held in December and the Annual Business Meeting is held in May.  Our annual banquet and return of Year-End Competition results wind up the season in May.

During June, July and August members meet informally at the Moka House, Fisherman's Wharf, on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays at 7:30 pm.

For all the details go to our Calendar and Competitions pages.

Guests are always welcome!

Activities

In addition to our regular program of meetings the Club also participates in field trips  to locations rich in photographic opportunities. A series of mini-worshops is planned and members participate in learning activities in digital photography and image processing.  On a biennial basis a public event, "Photographers in Action" is held to showcase our work to the broader community. See the Calendar and Resources pages for details.

Awards

The Victoria Camera Club holds an Annual Awards Banquet in May. At that time we celebrate our achievements in photography over the year with awards for the images presented in the Annual Competitions (see our Competitions and our Galleries pages for all the details) and for the aggregate points earned during the previous year. Special awards are also presented for service to the club.
